Two Weekends, Two Shows, Two Awards

The past two weekends have been quite busy! First, the 47th Annual Art Show by CBAA at Ocean View where I received an Award of Merit and the Member's Choice Award (what an honor by my peers)! Then, this past weekend was Stockley Gardens Arts Festival. I can't rest yet because next on the agenda is the Out & About Norfolk Paint Out October 22 & 23 with the Wet Paint Sale October 24th. Finally, my solo exhibit at Walls Fine Art Gallery opens November 7.

I just finished a new beach scene tonight. I have a lot of work ahead of me as I prep for my upcoming solo show. Pastels on suede--it's been a while and I'm having fun with it!

Where's Summer Going?

Time is flying!  As I look toward the fall and show opportunities, I was blessed to meet with a local gallery owner this week.  I am excited about signing a contract with Walls Fine Art Gallery and an upcoming solo exhibit on November 7.  Check out this gallery at www.wallsva.com.  They have some pretty cool stuff in there!

Creativity!

It was great to have time to paint this week.  The Blue Eggs were at it again!  The creativity started flowing again; I'm excited about this.  Can't wait to see what transpires onto canvas!

Rest?

The last of the spring art shows were completed this weekend.  The weather has not been the most cooperative this spring.  The second day of this weekend's show was actually canceled! Anticipating a new wave of creativity!  This week packing will ensue; 2 pieces of art work will be shipped to WI for an international exhibit.  I am excited about this opportunity!

In the Midst of Art Shows

Two spring art shows down and two to go.  This weekend, May 9 & 10, is Gosport Arts Festival in oldtowne Portsmouth on High Street.  Hoping for good weather--not too hot and no storms.  Just a taste of something new--"Margarita".

More Citrus!

I loved the way "Lemon Slices" turned out, I decided to paint "Lime Slices".  What a great pair they make!  I'm in the process of getting ready for art show season--painting, painting away!

Another Glass!

Yes, another painting of a glass.  Couldn't resist painting this one. I spent a few days at the beach last week painting with friends.  This was one of my creative projects.   I really enjoyed painting it!

Another Martini?

I know what you might be saying, "Another martini?  Martinis are popular to paint and how many different ways can they be painted?"  I know!  But, I love to paint them!  I took a class by Bob Burridge a little over a year ago and the class focused on painting glass--specifically martini glasses.  What fun!  So, here is yet another martini glass with an olive just completed!

Wow! Where did February Go!

Wow!  It's already March!  So, where did February go?  This past weekend my artwork with the Blue Egg Consortia came off of display, while I received acceptance letters to 2 big art shows in this area--Stockley Gardens Arts Festival and Chesapeake Arts Festival!  I've got to get more work completed and completed work into frames since time is flying by.  Here's a taste of a one of my latest pieces.

Sold!

What a wonderful surprise!!  Two pieces of artwork sold at the Nansemond Suffolk Art Show. I always like these kinds of surprises!  One was a favorite of mine.  I enjoy using McCaw's pictures for quick sketches and loose practice; this one was my interpretation of one of his dancers.  I loved putting my flare on it for a reference--never thought it would be looked at for purchase. The other picture was of a little girl looking for shells on the beach.

This show opens tomorrow!  I plan to head out there to check out all the great art work that will be for sale.  In case you don't get there,  I've added a sample of my latest work which is for sale.  www.nsacademy.org/giving/documents/2009Invitation.pdf

Now Showing!

Today, I ventured across the water, as we say around here, and hung a few pieces of artwork for the Blue Egg Art Consortia showing at the Larchmont Branch of the City of Norfolk Public Library system.  The library sits on a quaint piece of land on the water's edge and as I was leaving the parking lot, the thought came to me that this would be a great place to paint on site.  Maybe I'll "reserve" a spot for this year's Out & About Norfolk Paint Out? Here's a taste of what's on display.
