Practice...

Another practice sketch.  I enjoy the process of using a few pastel sticks and 30-45 minutes on the clock.  Degas Dancers--what a great resource to practice from.

Back Again--What a Year It Has Been!

Back again!  That's how I feel!  For those of you who are wondering who I am because you haven't seen anything from me in a while--I'm back (finally).  Many changes have taken place since last spring for me and my family--the most significant change being a relocation.  We are settled for a while until the next move once our home sells.  For now, I have been able to find a small space to "set up shop" so to speak.

I'm enjoying discovering the art scene of my new home and have been sharing pictures of places and events on my Facebook fan page (Cathleen Waldrop's Art Studio).  If you get a chance, check these out.  I recently joined the local Metropolitan Arts Council (of Greenville) and the Southeast Pastel Society since I am now close to Atlanta.  The Arts Council is proving to be a great resource for art happenings in the area with regular communication to its members.  Also, I am excited to have my Etsy shop back up and running as a print shop of my artwork.  You can find my shop at Heart08.etsy.com.  Now, I'm excited to be back on blogspot live.

Below are sketches I recently did using Maggie Price's technique for practice sketching.  You choose a photo, 5 pastel color sticks, and set your timer for 20 minutes.  Great way to practice.

Wine and Art

Wine and art have always been good companions, right?! We'll see how that goes tonight at a local wine tasting event in Norfolk. Eight local artists will be showing and selling their art. I was excited to be asked to be a part of this group!

New Year off to a Good Start!

2011 is underway! And, off to a good start! With the economy as it has been, art has not been a necessity! Where success has been found in the past, it has not been recently. So, as the year started, I was not expecting great sales or success. But, I have started the new year with a gallery show at Pembroke 4 Galleries in Va Beach and wonderful sales at a private art show and sale. Unsold works were picked up today along with a list of sold works. Hope this continues!

A Pick Up...

I picked up my pastel pencils a couple of nights ago. I love to paint on black paper so that's what I started to do. I have this gorgeous picture of ballet slippers. I'll play along on this one until I like it. It was good to pick up my pastels and feel them in my hands. I'll share a peak at this one when it's done!

Missing Artist Missing Art

Life takes lots of twists and turns; mine way too many lately. With my oldest son heading to college in a few weeks and a hurting economy, I'm having to work more as a nurse. Those hours are going up and painting time is going down! And, I am missing what the creative process does to the brain--escape! Creativity is going to have to come in a different form, as in how to find time to paint. Despite this complaining, please forgive me, I have completed a few painting in the past few months. Here's a sampling....

Where Have I Been??

Where have I been? Wow it has been a few months since I have been at blogspot! The holidays, a surgery, travel, a senior in high school searching for a college...but I'm back on track for now. Applications are being filled out and sent in for spring art shows. Right now, you can find my work online at Richeson75.com in the Pastels Competition. My piece, "Sitting Seagulls", is located in the Still Life/Abstract/Animals Gallery. It's always exciting to be a part of the Richeson75 International competitons. Thanks for checking it out!
